Barcelona to visit Getafe with holes in attack as it nears Spanish title

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona will visit Getafe in La Liga on Saturday probably without Lamine Yamal afterhe injured himselfwhile scoring a penalty.

Associated Press

The 18-year-old Yamal secured the 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Wednesday but after his spot kick he immediately dropped to the ground and grabbed the back of his left leg. He was promptly substituted.

As of Thursday morning the club had yet to issue a medical report on his status.

Key matches

Barcelona holds a healthy nine-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid as the season enters its home stretch with six games remaining.

Madrid visits fifth-placed Real Betis on Friday needing a victory to maintain its options of catching the defending champion. Madrid will visit Barcelona in three rounds on May 10.

La Liga is the only chance either powerhouse has to finish the season with a major title after both were eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals last week.

“Our objective has to be to win all six matches, regardless of what Barcelona does," said Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who replaced Xabi Alonso midseason and is most likely to be replaced this summer.

Atletico, whichbeat Barcelonato reach the final four of the Champions League, will most likely prioritize next week’s semifinal against Arsenal over its domestic match against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Coach Diego Simeone is sure to rotate his squad and rest his best players for Wednesday's home game against Arsenal.

Villarreal hosts Celta on Sunday aiming to hold onto third place and the corresponding Champions League berth for next season.

Players to watch

With Yamal and attack partner Raphinha likely to be unavailable, coach Hansi Flick still has options to form his starting front line. They include forward Marcus Rashford, winger Roony Bardghji or even Dani Olmo, Gavi Paéz or Fermín López shifting forward from the midfield.

Kylian Mbappé leads the league with 24 goals — three more than Mallorca's Vedat Muriqi — after he scored to help Madrid beat Alaves 2-1 on Tuesday. That broke a winless run of four games overall for Arbeloa's side.

Out of action

Besides Yamal, Barcelona will likely also be without right back Joao Cancelo after he was injured in the Celta win, too.

Madrid will be missing central defender Éder Militão and in-form midfielder Arda Güler after the club said on Wednesday they both had muscle injuries.

'Sorry, Timothee Chalamet': Charlize Theron Mocks 'Dune' Actor

Charlize Theronreignited theTimothee Chalametbacklash after a new interview revived his February remarks on ballet and opera. The Oscar winner did not just disagree. She framed his comments as careless toward two art forms she believed still needed strong public support. Moreover, the comment picked up attention because it linked Theron’s own ballet background to Chalamet’s earlier comments. It also gave the controversy a sharper personal edge. The “Hancock” actor even joked that she hoped to run into him one day after hearing his name come up.

Charlize Theron mocks Timothee Chalamet for past comments

The latest swipe came from aNew York Timesinterview with Charlize Theron. While discussing ballet, she said it was “probably one of the hardest things” she had ever done. When the interviewer replied, “Sorry, Timothee Chalamet,” Theron answered, “Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day.” She then called his earlier remarks “a very reckless comment.” She said ballet and opera were “two art forms” that people needed “to lift up constantly.”

Meanwhile, the “Monster” starbacked that up with her own experience. In the same interview, Theron said dancers were “superheroes.” She said they pushed their bodies in “complete silence.” Then she drew a contrast with the future of screen acting. “In 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timothee’s job,” she said, “but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.” She added, “We shouldn’t [expletive] on other art forms.” That made the criticism broader than one actor.

The dispute started in February, whenthe “Dune” starsaid he did not want to work in ballet or opera, describing them as forms people no longer cared about. He later joked, “I just lost 14 cents in viewership.” Those comments drew quick pushback.Page Sixsaid Misty Copeland argued he should not compare his craft to other art forms. Steven Spielberg also defended ballet and opera at SXSW 2026, saying, “We want that to be sustained.”

As of now, Chalamet has not publicly responded to Theron’s latest criticism.

Warriors offseason outlook: It might finally be time for a new era in Golden State

It'd be difficult to argue the Warriors deserved to find themselves in the playoffs.

Yahoo Sports

The team won just 37 games, dealt with a plethora of injuries and made big in-season trades … but did not look like a genuine threat at any stage of the season.

While the Warriors momentarily turned back the clock against the Los Angeles Clippers in their first play-in game, it also very much felt like their last gasp of the season.

The days of the Warriors consistently outperforming their roster capabilities seem to be over, once and for all.

Stephen Curry turned 38 in March, and while he's the player most capable of turning back the clock, that simply can't be said of Draymond Green, whose value we only see once or twice a week, if we're lucky.

(His childish behavior at the end of the loss to the Phoenix Sunsin their final play-in game is yet another reminder of how the aging Green — now 36 — has become more name than game, and his relevance is increasingly being reduced to his antics, as opposed to his relentless defensive qualities, which made him an all-time great.)

Now, the Warriors look ahead, but to what?

PHOENIX, ARIZONA - APRIL 17: Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors walks off the court after being defeating by the Phoenix Suns in an NBA play-in tournament game at Mortgage Matchup Center on April 17, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona. 2025-26 finish

Record: 37-45, 10th in the Western Conference. Eliminated by the Suns in the play-in tournament.

Highlight of the season

The Warriors finally ended years of self-imposed drama by trading Jonathan Kuminga in a deal for Kristaps Porziņģis, a 7-3 rim-protector who can join in on Golden State's 3-point fun. While his future with the club is in question, they did finally move past a situation with Kuminga that had grown enormously contentious.

Projected salary

Projected draft picks

Nos. 11 & 54

Draft focus:Unless they decide to pivot even more into veteran presence, the Warriors are in dire need of youth and upside at every position, making their case clear. They have to go for the best players available, regardless of roster configuration.

Roster-building tools

The above salary number is tricky, as Green is likely to pick up his option worth over $27.6 million. Additionally, Porziņģis is also looking for a new deal, which is likely going to cost the Warriors more than $20 million annually. That's adding almost $50 million to that cap figure before taking into account the rest of the roster with options, as well as any roster charges.

Don't expect the Warriors to have many options in terms of exceptions or a willingness to spend, unless they ship out money first.

Needs and goals

What the Warriors think they need probably differs from what so many other people think. They want to give Curry one more crack at a title, which is endearing, yet not particularly realistic, given their financial structure, age and inability to hit home runs in the draft.

As such, it's time to lay the groundwork for a new era — with everything that entails.

J.J. Moser, Lightning bounce back for OT win over Habs

J.J. Moser scored 12:48 into overtime, giving the host Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 comeback victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday and evening their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series at one win each.

Field Level Media

Tampa Bay fully controlled the game in the extra period and was rewarded when Moser found the net. He gained the puck off a faceoff win in the offensive zone, worked his way to a shooting position at the top of the right circle and wired a top-corner shot for his first career playoff tally.

"It's a thing you dream of as a kid," Moser said to Sportsnet. "There's a lot of things you dream of, but that's for sure one."

Montreal, which won Game 1 in overtime, was outshot 9-0 in overtime of Game 2.

The series shifts to Montreal for Game 3 on Friday.

"Their back was against the wall and it showed that they wanted it, they really wanted it, so good for them," said Canadiens goalie Jakub Dobes. 'Everyone on our team has to be better and I'm really excited to show our game at home, what we can do. It's a good series and I'm really excited for Friday."

Tampa Bay's Brandon Hagel collected a goal and an assist. Nikita Kucherov tallied once, Anthony Cirelli collected two assists and goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves for Tampa Bay, which snapped a collection of playoff swoons.

"That was probably the best hockey we've played in this series, to be honest, in overtime," said Hagel. "I think it was fun to watch and that's a good thing for our team. We can kind of remember that feeling and remember the way we played and what worked, because it was a clinic in overtime for us."

The Lightning had lost four in a row and 10 of their 11 postseason home games, plus seven straight overtime affairs during Stanley Cup playoff action.

Lane Hutson and Josh Anderson tallied for the Canadiens, while Dobes stopped 31 shots, including eight in overtime.

"Both games could have gone either way," Canadiens forward Kaiden Guhle said. "It's playoff hockey. It sucks right now, but I don't think we played a bad game. Overtime got away from us a little bit, we were on our heels, but 1-1 going to Montreal, I like how that feels."

The clubs traded goals in a chippy first period. Hagel put the Lightning on the board at 8:40 with his team's first shot on target. The puck came to Hagel at the top of the left circle, and he unloaded a top-corner slap shot for his third goal of the series.

Hutson tied the clash less than eight minutes later with Montreal's fourth power-play goal in the series. Hutson sent a one-timer from the point position that ricocheted off a defender and into the net for his first career playoff tally.

Anderson gave Montreal the lead with 84 seconds remaining in the second period. Jake Evans won a battle for the puck deep in the Tampa Bay zone and Phillip Danault chipped it to the front of the net, where Anderson was waiting to chip it into the cage for his second goal of the series.

Kucherov evened the score at 12:33 of the third period. Hagel intercepted a poor clearing attempt and fired a long shot wide. Kucherov grabbed the loose puck behind the net and converted a wraparound for his first playoff goal in 17 outings. His last playoff goal came on April 18, 2023, the opener of a first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
