Jo Adell robs 3 homers in what Torii Hunter calls the `greatest defensive game I've ever seen'

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — You've done something special when Torii Hunter, a nine-time Gold Glove Award winner known for his acrobatic catches, calls what you just did "probably the greatest defensive game I've ever seen."

That was the praise Hunter heaped on the Los Angeles Angels' Jo Adell after the right fielder made three homer-robbing catches, the last a spectacularleaping grab while crashing into the seatsnear the right-field foul pole in the ninth inning, in a1-0 victory over the Seattle Marinerson Saturday night.

"I've never seen three home run robberies in one game, and I've never seen a guy on the third one fall into the stands, catch the ball and keep his feet in like he's a wide receiver," said the 50-year-old Hunter, a special assistant to the general manager who watched the game from the bench. "I was jumping up and down. I almost passed out."

Adell, who struggled on defense for several years before transforming into a Gold Glove finalist in 2024, leaped high above the yellow line on the wall in straight-way right field to deny Cal Raleigh of a solo homer in the first inning, and made a nearly identical catch to against Josh Naylor in the eighth.

J.P. Crawford then led off the ninth with a drive toward the right-field corner, where Adell raced toward the ball, leaped to glove it, flipped over the low wall and fell into the first row of seats before holding his glove up to present the catch, which was upheld after a replay review.

"After the first one, I was pretty fired up," Adell said. "When I got to the second one, which looked identical to the first, I thought, 'Wow, my routes are on point tonight.' The third one was just grit. Top of the ninth, you have to get it done. It was crazy.

"You just get there, then it's decision-making. The ball was hit high enough to where I could get there. I watched it (into my glove), fell over and ended up in somebody's lap. I don't know who it was, but it was a softer landing than I expected. The fans were as fired up as me."

According to Inside Edge, Adell has 10 home run robberies since 2020, tied with Kyle Tucker of the Dodgers for the most in the big leagues. The outfielders with the most home run robberies in the entire 2025 season were Jacob Young of the Nationals and Fernando Tatis of the Padres. Both had four.

This was believed to be the first time in baseball history a player has robbed three homers in one game.

"It was like a movie scene," Hunter said about Adell's third catch. "It was like the music was playing, then he caught the ball, then he went down and we didn't see him anymore. The music paused, he came up and said, 'Yeah!' I started cheering and almost blacked out."

Hunter, the former Minnesota Twins, Angels and Detroit Tigers star, has worked extensively with Adell on defense during the past few years.

"His impact has been huge," Adell said. "It's mental when you're out there — it's a mindset of going to get the baseball, being aggressive. Early, I was caught in between on some plays, and sometimes that happens.

"When you err on the side of being aggressive and trying to make the plays, you'd be surprised at how many plays you make. That's the mindset Torii had all those years, winning all those Gold Gloves."

Dozens of fans of Dynamo Dresden ran across the field toward supporters of Hertha Berlin during Saturday's second-division game before being chased back by police. Dresden fans then burned a Hertha fan flag.

The game was resumed after an interruption of nearly 20 minutes and Hertha won 1-0.

Police said in a statement late Saturday that they were investigating offenses including dangerous bodily harm, breach of the peace and property damage. Police did not immediately confirm any injuries or arrests.

Dynamo Dresden finance director Stephan Zimmermann offered an apology to "all uninvolved people who were caught up in these unnecessary acts" and said the club had met with police.

"Our home games are known for a unique atmosphere. Pictures like we saw this evening are not acceptable and cause massive damage not only to our club but to soccer as a whole in Germany," Zimmermann said in a statement.

"We and many other clubs have spent recent months advocating for fans' interests and a safe stadium experience, and scenes like this are a heavy blow."

  • Lead actress Zazie Beetz endured intense 12-hour filming days, and Felton used music "to entertain her," Graham says

  • Graham and Felton star in the new horror film as satanic cult members, who are battling Beetz' character

One thing aboutTom Felton? He's going to bring music to a movie set!

Speaking with PEOPLE about their new movieThey Will Kill You,Heather Grahamrevealed that the "iconic"Harry Potteralum, 38, was a delight to have on set. According to the actress, whoplayed a satanic cultist alongside "charming" Felton, the actor always brought his instrument to set and used it to lighten the mood.

"He brings his ukulele to work and he sings a song about joining a cult. He was making us all laugh. He's really funny," Graham, 56, told PEOPLE of her scene partner while speaking alongside costarMyha'laafter the film's premiere atSXSW 2026.

While getting musical behind the scenes of the Tarantino-esque horror flick, the actor (who also makes music!) would give special attention to lead actressZazie Beetz, who had the most intense filming days of the star-studded cast. (The shoot left her "stripped raw" andincluded 12-hour days drenched in "freezing cold water,"she told PEOPLE.)

"He was trying to entertain Zazie, who was really tired," Graham said of Felton. "Obviously, she has so much action, but he was singing the song like, 'The cult's not that bad. Just join us.' I don't know. It was making fun of how ridiculous the cult is, basically."

On working with Felton more generally, Graham says he was a "great actor" — and played it cool about working with theBoogie Nightsactress until well after they wrapped.

"I mean, he's an iconic person. He's a mixture of being a really great actor, funny [and] interesting," she tells PEOPLE. "It's funny because last night at the premiere, he was like, 'Well, I was so excited to work with you,' but he seems so cool. I never really got that when we were working together."

Myha'la, 29, then chimed in to joke that Felton "was keeping it tight."

They Will Kill Youfollows Asia Reaves (Beetz), an ex-convict who "must survive the night at the Virgil, a demonic cult's mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair, before becoming their next offering in a uniquely brazen, big screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humor," per an official synopsis.

The entire cast — which also includesPatricia Arquetteand Paterson Joseph — was enthusiastic about the horror-action flick from the very beginning, director and co-writer Kirill Sokolov told PEOPLE.

"I think it's such a different and unique thing that people who read the script, they just got excited and they believed in it," said Sokolov, who co-wrote the genre-blending movie with Alex Litvak. "And then we started casting it, and every single person I talked to just somehow got it, and had so much passion and was so excited to do it."

"Also for them, it was interesting because they didn't do it before," the director said of the cast. "It's such a cool thing when you deal with actors like Zazie or Patricia or Myha'la or Tom Felton or Heather Graham who are very experienced and they're masters of their work and they had, like, such long careers and you bring them something that they never tried before."

The child-like "passion" and "excitement of getting there and trying to do something new," he added, was the "best honor for me."
